That godawful group format has been retained. Woo.

We're in group B: Hearts, Dunfermline, Peterhead, East Fife, Elgin City

Fixtures to be announced next week with the tournament starting on July 15th.

Am I right in thinking that we've never played Hearts in a competitive game before?

Believe you're right. I'd guess Hearts' matches will be away from home given the ongoing construction works at Tynecastle.

Aye aye, fowk. Just like the old days of the Highland League Cup except City and Peterhead could never be drawn together until semi-finals.

Looks like Hearts and Pars to go through.

Finally football has come back to the Blue Toon!!!

Hopefully we can put the nightmare of last season behind us. Four wins out of four in pre season and a winning start against East Fife although friendlies are just that and East Fife didn't really offer much.

Still, it's good to get the winning habit back again but much sterner tests against Dunfermline & Hearts to come before the real stuff starts. Can't go too overboard about things but there is a bit of light at the end of the tunnel.

A good start to the season. I thought the team played well but we still lacked a bit of something in the box as we maybe should have scored a couple more goals for all the good play we had. I also though McCracken stood out as exactly the kind of player we have been missing for the last couple of seasons and that he made a good partnership with Robertson.

Early days but I hope the team blend well by end September. Feet on the ground and I have no real expectations this season after last when everyone was tipping us to do well! The opposition will doubtless prove as gritty as ever. I think the team need to work hard at restoring confidence in their supporters - ie the loyal few who are still hanging on. I suspect the gate was down compared to last season was it?

It was about 450 with a few East Fife fans so not a great turn out considering it is the start of Scottish Week and all that. Real test for the crowd will be when the league starts in a couple of weeks.

Still think we could do with a proven goal scorer who can chip in with a few.

Anyway here are the East Fife highlights from eftv - https://vimeo.com/225749821

Obviously edited from a East Fife perspective. We definitely had more of the game than shown here. Hope we have highlights up soon.

The main stand linesman must have been on a promise, noticed as soon as the final whistle went he shot up the tunnel. Was not at the game but looked to be some decent stuff played.

To be honest he was getting grief from both sets of fans so that tells you all you need to know about his performance.

The club was surely not expecting a big crowd as only 1 turnstile was open for non season ticket holders. Let's hope all the turnstiles are open for the game against Hearts. The performance against East Fife was a breath of fresh air compared to some of the stuff we had to endure last season. It's early days but I am confident that we will be much better this season and the crowds will increase to watch a winning team.

Won't make Dunfermline on Saturday (unless my new car turns up which would be convenient..) but hoping the Hearts game will give me an early glimpse towards an improved team.

Also, feel this should be mentioned...

v Dunfermline. Back to reality - at least we now know where we stand. I thought at one stage it was going to reach double figures!

It was not as bad as the score suggests, Dunfermline are a full time Championship team & today they looked a good one. The main problem today was losing two goals so early, it let the Pars relax & play with a lot of freedom & in the first half they created lots of space & although Fleming did not have chance with the goals but did not have much else to do. Would have been more interesting if we could have kept in it for 30 mins or so but to the teams credit they worked away & were better in the second half & with a few more games together hopefully can get a decent start to the league. You would expect a similar test on Tues against Hearts but hopefully we keep things tight & don't let game be over after 10 mins.

Bit unfortunate that the final score was 5-1. Bad memories of the Forfar game.

Different situation of course and we won't have to face teams like Dunfermline every week but teams in League 2 will up their game against us and we will have to work hard to get anything this season.

One positive is there was no sign of the heads going down as was the case last season when we went behind. Also according to the BBC stats, we had 8 shots on target as opposed to 7 from them. You wouldn't have bet against McManus scoring as he scored against us the last two times we played Morton. Roll on the Jambos.

Dunfermline looked to have way too much pace for us. Might have been better to sit back and try to hit on the break.

I counted 16 players coming out of the tunnel for them although to be fair the big guy and the 4 little ones didn't affect the game.

Also I like Rory's optimism at chasing to get the ball back after the penalty at 4-1 down. 8)
