Challenge Cup

Post by NewBlue » Wed Aug 16, 2017 10:55 am

OK so there might not be many fans of the new cup format but after beating East Fife last night we are still in it. 2nd round draw is at 1pm tomorrow. Hopefully not a colt team although a draw against Buckie or Cove would interesting.

There was no denying we rode our luck at times last night but also given that over half the team have not really had game time this season yet it was a gamble that paid off handsomely. The new left back is as we knew a good bit away from match sharpness but hopefully that will come. Good to see Marc Lawrence & Scott Adams play ok & both get a goal. Fraser Hobday did well in goal & noticed last night that Jason Brown was taking charge of things & geeing players up which is something that has been missing for some time. Just hope we avoid a Colt team in the draw as while thinking the original idea of this cup giving smaller teams a chance of silverware was good I will not be attending any games involving colt teams as this is being used to get acceptance of them gaining league places.

Thanks Flasher. Coverage a bit one sided possibly but PHD looked rather flattered by the result. I think Gabriel could prove quite an asset.

Not a great draw. If there was going to be any excitement in this cup it would be getting a team we don't often play or a HL team. No such luck.

At least it's a Saturday which will please Annan and our travelling players.

Also means 3 home games in a row.

Seems we'll have another left back on show against Annan although Scott Ross doesn't look like he's joining Ryan Strachan at Cove.

On Scotty Ross, if I remember rightly, the transfer window doesn't apply to HFL clubs, but maybe different for players coming from a club in the SPFL.

New left back seemed to be a decent player but overall a very poor game with not a lot of football on display.

Injury problems continue with McCracken again going off and Scott Brown having to fill in at right back as Jason Brown moved into McCracken's place. We also look pretty toothless up front without Rory.

Still, a much needed win after the last two results.

Actually happy with that. I haven't been up to ICT before so will be a def away day for me. I know we have been using the youngsters for this competition but it would be good to see a decent team out if we pick up a bit in the league.

Good luck to Scott Ross. I'm sure with him and Ryan Strachan together that Cove will dominate the HFL.

Would hope that we could still get a replacemant either a loan or an unattached player for central defence. Or alternatively get a proper right back to cover for Jason when he has to play central.
