Especially away games there were 9 official looking guys in the area at east fife plus the subs
Mcinally (lucky to be there) Nicholls (assistant fair enough) greig smith (physio ok need him ) jarvie (???) Scott tait(???) jock the kit man (???) old guy with grey hair (???) tall dark haired guy in tracksuit (???) smaller dark haired guy in tracksuit (???)

According to the rules of the competition there should only have been 6 team officials in the technical area at East Fife.

https://spfl.co.uk/docs/067_324__challe ... 603596.pdf

5.5
Six team Officials, and up to seven substitute Players are allowed to occupy positions in the technical area allocated for their Club/club. i.e. a total of 13 persons. The names of all such persons and their functions must be listed on the Match Form pursuant to Regulation 5.2.

re the 'old guy with grey hair' in the technical area, you must be referring to Stuart Hogg who for years has been one of the top athletics coaches in the country. He has trained Olympic sprinters and worked for a decade at Dundee Utd and Aberdeen FC where he was responsible for sprint training. He's a friend of Jims and has come in to try and add a bit of speed to the squad.

Certainly one of the folk in the tracksuits was David McCracken who when not playing has been keeping an eye on the defending, think the other was Paul Cairney there were some other players not involved who sat in the stand.

Fair question, I have also always wondered who the 'old guy' is so thanks for the info. Also wondered what Jarvie's actual role is as it seems an expense to have so many coaches for such a small squad.

Thanks tall guy in track suit was McCracken
and thought the grey haired guy was the guy from Dundee Utd but didn't know his name other guy in the tracksuit was at the kids summer coaching camp but not a player
Ye don't know what Jarvis brings to the club
But surely all we need in the area is mcinally (for now ) nicholls assistant physio and subs the rest in the stand

Exactly what it says why do we need so many hang ons at the club
last year we had a goal keeper who also works at rangers as a goal keeping coach but we have jarvie and tait trying to coach someone who has played at a higher level than both put together
And to say he came here as a good keeper and left as a not so good keeper tells the story
And not just the keeper some players as well
Why do they all have to be in the dugout surely the sprint coach kit man and any unfit or injured players should be in the stand

What's the obsession with the technical area? Even Graeme Smith would admit that he didn't have the best of seasons last year but you seem to want to blame it on Scotty Tait. GAFL

Not blaming last season on tait at all
And was just a question I wondered if anyone knew the answer not an obsession
just don't see why we need so many so called coaches at the club

Way to miss the point! Last season we had three goalkeeping coaches at the club -Jarvie, Smith and Tait. For a part time club this is just ridiculous.

As we can see from our relegation last year, packing the technical area with a coach for this and a coach for that doesn't equate to better performances.

Pretty sure Jarvie is working as a general coach rather than a goalkeeping coach.

Guys, Jarv is a general coach and not a goalkeeping coach and how can you expect Graeme Smith to coach when he is playing and getting trained himself?

Jose Mourinho never played at any notable level but yet he is one of the greatest managers / coaches of all times?

I've heard it all now!

Slight difference is that Mourinho was assistant manager at Barca by the time he was the same age as Jarvie. The only concern I have about it all is the old 'too many cooks spoil the broth', but if it all works then I don't have any problems.

So now we're comparing Jarvie to Mourinho? Seriously every part time club relies heavily on volunteers and we are no different from ball boys right up to the guys who submit the match reports and even some of the coaching staff. They don't do it for money but for the love of the game and anyone who thinks the club is infested with a bunch of money grabbers is whistling through a hole in his backside. There is obviously a budget but this goes on the players and Jim has to juggle this to attract the best he can.Sometimes this doesn't always go to plan like last season but this year seems to be working well with the players starting to gel and getting used to other. There will always be blips along the way but that's football.

At the end of the day providing its within the rules am sure nobody would be there if the manager did not want them involved, there are plenty experts that have their say on here without bothering to turn up to the majority of games to be in a position to criticize. Anyway on a lighter note with the talk of an old grey haired guy in the dugout did wonder if somebody had noticed me, when we played a pre-season game the other year up at Lossie, think I was about the only one that made it up, was standing near the dugout & was invited by Jim to join him & Davie Nic & Stan in the dugout for the game, enjoyed the experience & some good banter was had. Am sure if Jim did not think certain folk had something to contribute they would be asked to find another spot to watch the game.
