Stenny away 6/1/18

Post by ELLON BRANCH » Sat Jan 06, 2018 9:10 pm

Well we finally put them to the sword. First half we were second best to most things & was back to giving the ball away continually we went one down & things did not look good we had a number of chances to clear the ball from our box & in the end tripped one of their players for a needless pen, right on half time the ref spotted something amiss while we had a corner & Rory was able to put away the pen to send us in at the interval level. Second half we were much more like ourselves closing them down much quicker & actually passing to our own players & we started to dominate. A few slack moments at the back but as is the way of things when you are at the right end of the table you get a bit of luck that you don't if your at the other end

Yes a great result but Montrose still maintain top position. Looking at M's fixture list I somehow doubt they will drop many points between now and end of month and of course we have a cup tie soon conceivably putting us three games behind. We could make up some leeway end January with the postponed Berwick match but it's a long trek down to Berwick for a Tuesday night game. We need to grit our teeth now and keep this winning streak!

The other thing is that the cup game replaces a trip to Annan so another long midweek trip to come and possibly a cup replay if we were to draw.

However, the 2nd quarter has been excellent for us with 24 points out of 27 after 16 for the first quarter giving us 40 points for the half way stage.

If we could repeat that for the second half then 80 points should be enough to get the title but we need to keep working and not ease up in any way.

Incidentally, 20 goals scored in the last 4 games is equal to the 20 we scored in the first 9 games so long may it continue.
