Play-offs format.

Post by recreation2 » Sun Apr 29, 2018 7:40 pm

Thought for a while Elgin were going to do us a turn, but not to be, loss was not due to yesterdays results but rather some of the daft games we missed out on earlier in the season but a great effort non the less, and we must hope this run of form is continued into the playoffs. On that subject, what is the format, who do we play and when are these games scheduled ?

We are away to Stirling Albion this coming Weds KO 7.45 then the second leg is at Balmoor on Saturday with a 3pm Ko. The winners of this will play the winners of the Queens Park Stenhousmuir tie the following Weds/Sat over two legs. The winner of this will enter/stay in League 1 for next season.

The highest placed side has home advantage in leg two of each playoff round, so if we get to the final and play Queenโ€™s Park weโ€™d be home in the midweek and at Hampden on the Saturday. If we play Stenny, weโ€™d be away first.

How lovely it would be to clinch the play-off spot at Hampden Park, the home of Scottish Football and National Stadium.
Better still a mere 160 mile return trip for us ๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ‘

We have to get past Stirling Albion first. If we do beat them I hope it is Queens Park and not our bogey team Stenny in the final play off.

Don't know if it's good or bad news but Stenny it is and not QP at Hampden. Don't have a good recent record against Stenny but perhaps now is the time to step up and break the hoodoo. Stenny have had a lot of midweek games recently so hopefully that will begin to tell.

More comfortable than expected against Stirling and for once we appear to be going into the final without a list of injuries or suspensions. Eight wins in a row is excellent form and just need to keep it going for two more.

Knew I shouldn't have mentioned injuries. :(

Mason Robertson missing, David McCracken just back and maybe not 100%. Rory missing a penalty then going off injured and Jason also going off injured.

Apart from that we were poor overall and it's going to take a miracle to get promoted now especially if these players don't make it back.

If Stenny score it's all over and wouldn't be surprised if Jim walks away.

Such a disappointing end.

Unlucky or just the shortage of cover at the back catching up with us it was apparent by half time last night it was a game for battening down the hatches & play for a 0-0 to take into Saturday. We eventually conceded but even then had no defenders to put on to tighten things up, McLean to his credit looked our best defender. Giving away another soft goal may be the straw that broke the camels back, hopefully not but with the injury list growing the team on Saturday may well pick itself, if fit your in.
