At the end of they day if the club is serious about following in the footsteps of other highland clubs then we need to look at the foundations and not keep chucking money at the first team. Finally, it is not the job of fans to go looking for talent for the club to sign, that should be done by the club as a matter of course. Surely it would be cheaper to take a chance on a couple of 'locals' than paying a signing fee to some no mark from the central belt who disappears after a few weeks.
Exactly. We seemingly have the best budget in the league, in part I suspect because we are dedicating all our resources to the first team. We have tried the "pay them, play them" approach and it doesn't appear to be working very well. Last season was a step in the right direction where we didn't have any loan players in the team but there is surely a benefit in having the majority of the team within commuting distance so that we can have them train more than once a week. Now obviously I doesn't have to be within commuting distance of Peterhead or even Aberdeen but we have very little local identity as a club, no players/club reps going into schools, running community initiatives (and by that I mean all-inclusive activities not some for profit summer camps).

I am genuinely starting to despair at the direction the club has been heading the last few years and I don't believe it is in the long term interests of the club to continue in the same vein.

In a similar vein, Dundee United have just (re?)introduced a policy of asking all their players to live within 25 miles of Dundee. Probably not a realistic proposition for a part-time club such as ourselves, but an interesting approach.

Nat Porter is head of youth and community and runs coaching initiatives through schools in the community and also on match days.
Nat also runs adult fitness clubs through the club and SPFL community trust which are non-profit activities.

Just one of the many initiatives run by the club, this one to encourage children to read in exchange for match tickets. There is much goes on behind the scenes that is not shouted about but there are strong links to the community within the club :D

Hope things work out for Marc. Paul Cairney had lots going for him but was either unwilling or unable to help himself.
Despite his talent being "unwilling or unable to help himself" was not his problem off=field methinks :D

In todays paper that David McCracken is returning mainly in a coaching role but also to provide cover when required as a player. Andrew McRae released by Caley has been made an offer but is still away on holiday. Apparently still looking for 2 or 3 players including a back up keeper.

Would probably still be a good signing even at that age providing he hasn't been on the Cairney diet. :o

Few other clubs after him as well including Dumbarton & East Fife.

It all seems to have gone a bit quiet. Any other rumours floating about at the moment?

Mason is offski, and Andrew MacRae has turned down the PFC offer. Jim states we're now looking for four players.

Defender Cameron Eadie joins from Falkirk. Also looks like Derek Lyle is off to Linfield.

So what's the feeling lads, given the players so far on our books. Do we have a stronger or weaker team than last year albeit on paper? My concern is the lack of 'local' Aberdeenshire lads as I feel we are unlikely to get the same sort of commitment from further south based players partly due to short term contracts. I guess most of Jim's links are based on his old stamping ground whereby a 'local 'manager might tap into the Highland League etc. One thing I feel certain is that should we fail to get promotion this time round that Jim will surely move on. Anyhow, let's hope for a good season - we deserve one!

Looking at our signings, we appear to have a reasonable mix of youth & experience. Don't support stance on not making local signings, over the years Jim has tried recuiting locally or using highland league for talent, last season Blair Yule was a target, but chose Arbroath ( now returned to Cove), we recruited a player from Cove a few seasons back, name escapes me, but due to work and other issues didn't play. We signed Fraser Hobday from Huntly, a good keeper in his own right, but couldn't displace Greg Fleming. So in my opinion Jim does look locally but makes decisions in the clubs best interests from availability

We have now signed Derek Lyle. With him, Rory and Russell up front we should be top scorers this season. Let's make sure we have a solid defence to go along with this firepower. - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Derek_Lyle
