Peterhead v Queens Park (04/08/18)

Post by Blueblazer » Fri Aug 03, 2018 10:13 pm

Here we go again. Another make or break season about to start.

Can't remember the last time it wasn't a make or break season.

Anyway, have to hope that it is an enjoyable season and we score lots of goals, lose hardly any goals, play some exciting football along the way and end up with some silverware.

This league is always so hard to judge. Hopefully the changes to the Bloo Toon squad have made the team stronger, but the wole of the Scottish game seems to be upping it's game. Just look at the players Edinburgh City have signed, and the performances of Cowdenbeath in the Betfred Cup.

I hate, hate, HATE games against QP as they always seem to be our bogey team. Hopefully their squad re-shaping plays in our favour.

QP a bogey team? Just when we got rid of Stenny. Don't think so. We've won 18 and drawn 10 out of the last 33 games, winning the last 6 at home.

My perception may of course be skewed by the sands of time :)

As most will know I am the eternal optimist with regard to our team but that is being sorely tested just now, I honestly think any team in the division that are prepared to work a bit & close us down have every chance of taking points off us home or away. Other teams seem to be given time to play out of their own half & build attacks, at the moment if we are closed down the inevitable punt forward happens, if we play through the midfield how often do we end up going sideways, backwards or just giving the ball away. There is no doubt we have talented players but until they compete as a unit it could be a long season.

Haven't even bothered watching the highlights.

As it was last season teams are going to up their game against us and we need to first of all match their work rate.

Not sure what all the shifting of players around was about. Big Russell was a striker, then in right midfield, then in left midfield before being taken off. We ended up with Jamie at left back and Willie Gibson at right back and while Jamie deservedly got MOTM we need these creative players in their right positions.

Seems a bit like last season again in that a fully fit starting eleven would be ok but we don't have cover for certain positions and just play people out of position.

At least we scored a goal.

Spot on. Been wracking my brain for what to say about that game but you have summed it up there.

Apart from the two on the injury list, we also had Leitch and McCracken serving one match bans from the play offs.

If we are reliant on McCracken to get results then it's going to be a looooooong season.

We're not reliant on McCracken for results as he is now a coach but he is still registered as a player and can give us cover for the inevitable injuries and suspensions.

Hopefully we shouldn't really need him to play as it looks as though we have enough bodies in this season.

Has Jarvie moved on? I don't remember seeing him on Saturday.
